On March 9, 2024, The BLOKC brought blockchain education to the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod, as resource speaker Mr. Mark Hugh Neri delivered an engaging and insightful talk on the transformative power of blockchain technology across three critical sectors: cybersecurity, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Mr. Neri unpacked how blockchain's core architecture — its decentralized, distributed ledger — offers a powerful new layer of defense against modern cyber threats. By eliminating single points of failure and ensuring data immutability, blockchain presents a compelling case for rethinking how organizations approach data integrity and security.
The session also explored how blockchain is reshaping cloud infrastructure. From decentralized storage solutions to transparent audit trails, attendees gained a clearer picture of how this technology can enhance trust, accountability, and efficiency in cloud environments.
Perhaps one of the most forward-looking segments of the talk centered on IoT. Mr. Neri illustrated how blockchain can serve as the trust layer that IoT networks have long needed — enabling secure device-to-device communication, tamper-proof data logging, and scalable identity management across connected ecosystems.
The immersive session gave USLS students and attendees a rare opportunity to explore blockchain not just as a financial tool, but as a foundational technology capable of future-proofing systems across industries. Participants walked away with actionable insights and a broader understanding of blockchain's game-changing applications in the real world.
This activity is part of The BLOKC's ongoing mission to bring accessible, high-quality blockchain education to communities across the Philippines — one campus at a time.
Stay tuned for more events and learning opportunities from The BLOKC.
