The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Cebu Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) has officially launched its Innovation Hub in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City — a dedicated collaborative workspace designed to support tech developers, startup founders, researchers, and innovators in advancing their projects.
Inaugurated on December 2, 2024, the hub marks a significant milestone for Cebu's growing technology ecosystem. It serves as a convergence point for creative minds looking to push boundaries in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.
Among the hub's earliest highlights was the Core </> Connect Bootcamp, its very first bootcamp event — powered by mentors from The BLOKC. The session focused on blockchain technology, walking participants through blockchain fundamentals, real-world applications, and programming languages including Solidity.
The bootcamp drew enthusiastic responses from attendees. Adrian Alquizar, a 3rd-year IT student, described the experience as an "eye-opener" — one that introduced him to new technological paradigms and revealed promising career paths in blockchain development. He specifically praised the mentors for their clarity in explaining complex blockchain concepts.
Encouraged by the success of the inaugural bootcamp, DOST Region 7 has expressed plans to host more bootcamps across the region. These upcoming initiatives aim to deepen collaboration among stakeholders, engage technology enthusiasts, and strengthen Central Visayas' position in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
The Innovation Hub and its growing list of programs reflect a shared commitment between DOST and organizations like The BLOKC to make cutting-edge technology education more accessible to Filipino students, developers, and entrepreneurs.
