The University of Santo Tomas (UST) recently hosted "The ABCs of Digital Autonomy: AI, Blockchain, and Cloud" at the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building, bringing together students eager to explore the technologies shaping the future of the digital economy.
Taking center stage was Mr. Jerome P. Monte, Blockchain Specialist and Based Student Ambassador, who delivered an engaging session on the fundamentals and real-world applications of blockchain technology. His talk was designed to break down complex concepts into digestible ideas, making blockchain accessible to students regardless of their technical background.
Mr. Monte walked attendees through how blockchain works as a decentralized and transparent ledger system, highlighting its growing relevance across industries such as finance, supply chain, healthcare, and governance. By grounding his discussion in practical, real-world use cases, he helped students understand not just the what of blockchain, but the why behind its widespread adoption.
Beyond the basics, Mr. Monte also introduced students to Base 🔵 — an Ethereum Layer 2 network — and the exciting opportunities it opens up for builders and developers. He encouraged attendees to consider the possibilities of building decentralized applications on Base, emphasizing how accessible and developer-friendly the ecosystem has become for those looking to enter the Web3 space.
The event reflects BLOKC's ongoing commitment to bringing blockchain education directly to Filipino students and academic communities. By partnering with universities and empowering student ambassadors, BLOKC continues to cultivate the next generation of Web3 builders and innovators right here in the Philippines.
Stay tuned for more events and educational sessions as BLOKC expands its reach across campuses nationwide. 🚀
